When fully charged, the all-electric range is up to 40 miles (64 km) (WLTP), which is more than enough for most people’s daily driving habits (the average daily driving distance in Europe is 28 miles). When driving in cities with frequent stopping and starting, the range increases to 55 miles (88 km). Once the battery is depleted, Kuga Plug-In Hybrid will automatically start using the petrol engine and switch to Battery Charge mode. This uses regenerative braking and energy from the engine to recharge the battery.

Yes you can. The Kuga Plug-in Hybrid has 4 Electric Vehicle modes that give you the power of choice:

EV Auto – The smart system automatically decides when to use the battery to maximise efficiency.

EV Now – This is the all-electric mode. The Kuga Plug-in Hybrid will run on electric power until the battery is depleted.

EV Later – Kuga Plug-In Hybrid will drive using the engine only, saving the battery’s power to be used at a later point.

EV Charge – The battery will be recharged using regenerative braking and power from the engine.

When the battery is fully charged and the 45-litre fuel tank is full, Kuga Plug-In Hybrid has a total range of 470 miles (/756km) (WLTP drive cycle).

Kuga Plug-In Hybrid takes advantage of 3 different systems to recharge its battery:

1. Regenerative braking – this smart technology captures energy that’s usually lost when the brakes are applied and uses it to recharge the battery.
2. Using the engine – As well as driving the vehicle, the engine can send power to the high voltage battery.
3. External power sources – The Kuga Plug-In Hybrid can be plugged into a standard domestic socket, a Ford Wallbox or a public charging station to recharge while you’re not using the vehicle.

Mild Hybrid (EcoBlue Hybrid) vehicles are the entry level of electrification. They have the smallest battery and aren’t able to drive using electric power alone. The battery gives a boost of power to the engine and improves overall efficiency. A full Hybrid has a larger battery and can drive short distances using just electric power.

The Plug-In Hybrid has by far the largest battery of the three. This enables Kuga Plug-In Hybrid to drive on electric power up to 40 miles and up to a speed of 83 mph.

Not necessarily. On a standard domestic socket, the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid will charge from empty to full in under 6 hours, which means it can be charged overnight. A Wallbox home charging point can completely recharge the battery in just 3.5 hours. Both methods of charging are equally safe and convenient.

The Wallbox delivers faster home charging for your Kuga Plug-In Hybrid. And if you upgrade to a full electric vehicle in the future, the Wallbox will also be compatible with that.

The Wallbox is supplied by EVBox and can be purchased on its own or with installation. The price for the Wallbox home charging point without installation is £797. Installation costs vary depending on your property. The EVBox will also work with other electric vehicles, so if you choose to purchase a fully electric vehicle in the future you won’t need a new Wallbox.

If you choose to have a Wallbox installed, the simplest way is to contact your local Ford Dealer. They will put you in touch with our Ford approved installation company [insert market partner, eg British Gas] and support you through the process. You may also be eligible for a government grant which can reduce the cost. In the future, we will also offer a Ford-branded Wallbox to support the all-electric Mustang Mach-E and our Plug-In Hybrid vehicles. This will deliver even further integration with the FordPass app. Full details will be communicated at a later date.

The Kuga Plug-In Hybrid and recommended EVbox Elvi wallbox are eligible for the UK’s Electric Vehicle Home charge Scheme (EVHS) grant. The installer will deduct the current value of the grant from the invoice for eligible claimants. You will need to retain your Kuga Plug In Hybrid for six months to qualify for the grant.

The Kuga Plug-In Hybrid comes with two charging cables: one for a domestic socket and one for use at public charging stations. Public charging stations are operated by individual providers who manage access and pricing. If you purchase Ford Plug-In Hybrid vehicle, we will send you a Ford Charge card and a QR code to download a charging app. By downloading the app, which is powered by Shell Recharge, and activating the Ford Charge card you’ll be able to charge your vehicle at more than 300,000 locations across Europe.

For the best in-car comfort, we recommend the climate be set to ‘AUTO’. In this setting, the vehicle self-moderates to meet your desired set temperature, measuring humidity to ensure the windscreen remains clear, too. In AUTO mode, the new KUGA CX482’s Climate System actively switches the A/C compressor on or off, depending on the ambient temperature of the car versus the chosen temperature, indicated by the A/C LED light turning on or off. The Driver or Passenger can override the AUTO function by pressing the ‘A/C’ button. The system reacts by staying in the chosen condition indicated by the A/C LED light.

The new KUGA CX482 includes an active Humidity Sensor, situated on the windscreen behind the mirror. This sensor reads the humidity of the air, as well as the temperature of the windscreen. As needed, the A/C Compressor will automatically activate to avoid misting and moisture. Be mindful that this functionality is not indicated by the A/C LED light.

The Climate Control functionality in your new KUGA CX482 relies on a complex network of systems that impacts the car’s behaviour, reaction and performance. However, we condensed these mechanisms into an LED light indicator system for simple and seamless user interactions. The A/C indicator light will show when the A/C Compressor recognises that the car needs cooling (which the Drive/Passenger can press manually). Your Kuga also has a windshield-mounted fogging sensor. While in AUTO mode, this feature prevents the misting of the windows, only activating when a need for dehumidification of the cabin is detected. Note that this function is not indicated by the presence of an LED light.

In AUTO Mode, if the outside temperature is cold (i.e., a few degrees cooler than the temperatures you set on the Control Knob) and the Climate Control system does not detect any risk of the windscreen fogging, the A/C Compressor will stay off (as well as the A/C indicator light). In this case, the system maintains cabin comfort by using outside or recirculated air only. This approach reduces the energy required to operate the A/C Compressor, resulting in lower fuel consumption. The A/C indicator light will tell you that the A/C Compressor is running, either because AUTO Mode sees the need to have triggered the Compressor or the Driver/Passenger selects it manually.

The ‘MAX ‘Defrost button can be used if the windscreen is misted and the most optimal setting is needed immediately to clear the screen. This button is largely used during cold winter days to support de-icing of the windscreen. This Button will activate the heating of the front/back screen, set the airflow to the screen, activate the A/C Compressor, change to high temperature and increase the Blower to a high airflow. When the window becomes unmisted and free of ice, you can press the ‘MAX’ button again and the system will return to the previous setting.

In AUTO mode, the system reacts to maintain the correct temperature in the cabin. However, there is still the option for the customer to manually activate the A/C (in case the AUTO mode decided that there is no need to activate the AC to maintain comfort). The intention of AUTO mode is to reduce the need for the Driver to change temperature settings for comfort. By choosing a preferred comfort temperature, the system takes all required action to achieve this by adjusting A/C, Blower level, Airflow direction, among other activities. However, the manual override accounts for circumstances where that desired temperature changes. With AUTO Steps 1, 2 and 3 we offer an additional functionality to meet customer preferences regarding the system’s noise levels.  AUTO 2 is the standard system behaviour, AUTO 1 reduces the Blower Level and AUTO 3 increases the Blower Level.

The best option is to let the A/C system run on AUTO mode. This setting eliminates the need for any further manual change.

If you are running in AUTO mode and the climate system is running stable (i.e., all target temperatures are reached after a certain time) the control system might decide that there is no further need to run the A/C Compressor so as to increase energy efficiency. By toggling down in AUTO mode–reducing the temperature requirement–you influence this stable condition, telling the system that you now request a new, lower target temperature. To satisfy your new demand for cooler air, the climate control system will activate the A/C Compressor, indicated by the A/C LED light turning on.

AUTO Mode is developed to automatically provide optimum passenger comfort for a wide range of customers. If individual settings are preferred these can be adjusted as needed.
